Kendrick (4-2) yielded an RBI single to Robinson Cano among his four hits, walked two and struck out three. Kendrick has allowed one earned run or less in three of his last four starts.

Ryan Howard recorded a run-scoring single and added a sacrifice fly for the Phillies, who took two of three from the Yankees in a rematch of last year’s World Series, which New York won in six games.

Pettitte (8-2) gave up three runs — two earned — on six hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in seven full frames.
