Holding a one-game lead in the AL East, the New York Yankees wrap up their 10-game road trip in the division with a series in Boston that starts on Tuesday night. The Red Sox season is lost, with one daily disaster piling on another, but the rivals would love to spoil the Yankees playoff push with the Orioles and Rays right on their heels.
Hiroki Kuroda will take the mound for Joe Girardi's club, looking for his 14th win of the season. Kuroda gave up eight hits and four runs in his last start against the Rays and has a 3.74 ERA in three starts against the Red Sox this season. One the other side, Jon Lester, now the staff veteran, will pitch for the Sox. Lester shut down the Yankees in his last start against them, allowing just one run in seven innings. But he had another up-and-down month in August and the Bronx Bombers have gotten to him at times this season.
This will be the Yankees final trip to Fenway this season. Meanwhile, the Orioles and Rays will start a three-game set in Baltimore on Tuesday.
