If you like pitching, then there's a game for you on Monday night.
The New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers will clash in the first of a four-game set at Comerica Park with Justin Verlander and Ivan Nova on the mound for their clubs.
Verlander, the reigning AL Cy Young and MVP award winner, is having another terrific season. Despite an 11-7 record, the righty has been dominant with a 2.63 ERA, good enough for fourth in the American League. Verlander also ranks second in WHIP and third in strikeouts.
However, the smoke-thrower was hittable in his last appearance against the Boston Red Sox, when he allowed four runs (three earned) in five frames of work.
He'll be opposed by Nova, who has been consistently inconsistent for the Bronx Bombers.
Nova has a very solid 10-5 mark but a mediocre 4.53 ERA. In his last outing, the sophomore was pounded by the Baltimore Orioles, surrendering nine runs in five innings for the loss.
On the positive side of things, Nova only once allowed more than three earned runs before the Orioles fiasco since May 30.
