The New York Yankees beat the Seattle Mariners 6-3 Friday night behind a complete game three-hitter from pitcher CC Sabathia. The Yankee starter struck out 10 and walked one.
New York's offense offered Sabathia plenty of support. Curtis Granderson scored two with a single in the third, and Eric Chavez added two more with a home run in the sixth. Robinson Cano and Raul Ibanez also had RBI on the night. Mark Teixeira was 1-for-4 in his return to the lineup.
The Yankees improve to 62-43 with the win, and Sabathia improves to 11-3. New York will look to continue things in Game 2 of the three game series, when they send Hiroki Kuroda to the mound against Mariners ace Felix Hernandez. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET.
