The New York Yankees have been enjoying a terrific season, with a good share of the reason belonging to Nick Swisher.
According to the New York Post, the team is almost certain to try to bring Swisher back next season.
Swisher would have to be offered a 1-year deal for $13.3 million tender for the Yankees to ensure draft-pick compensation if he left. However, it's expected that Swisher will want to seek a long-term deal to secure himself for much longer.
One of the more unsung if not understated players on the team, Swisher has been solid at multiple positions this year. With first baseman Mark Teixeira out due to a wrist injury Swisher has held the fort down quite effectively. To date, Swisher is hitting .269 with 18 homers and 69 RBI.
It won't be easy keeping Swisher at such a high price with the luxury tax of $189 million coming into effect in 2014. Both Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson's contracts expire after that season, making general manager Brian Cashman's job that much harder.
