Yankees Vs. Orioles Final Score: Robinson Cano Hits Grand Slam In 12-3 Win

The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles, 12-3, on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium to snap a four-game losing streak. The Yankees dropped the first two games of the series to the Orioles in their three-game set.

The Yankee bats put this game out of reach early on. Curtis Granderson hit a solo homer in the first inning. Andruw Jones plated another run in the inning with a sacrifice fly. Endy Chavez got one run back for the Orioles in the second inning on a ground out to first which scored Wilson Betemit. The Yankees added two runs in the second inning on RBI singles by Derek Jeter and Nick Swisher. Jayson Nix's ground rule double scored a run in the third inning and Jeter scored Nix and Casey McGehee with an two-RBI single in the inning. Robinson Cano's grand slam unloaded the bases and gave the Yankees an 11-1 lead through three innings. The Orioles added one run in both the seventh (J.J. Hardy solo homer) and eighth (Chavez RBI double) innings. McGehee, who was just acquired from the Pirates at the trade deadline, hit a sacrifice fly and scored Cano in the eighth inning. McGehee also had two walks and scored two runs in his Yankees' debut.

Phil Hughes went six innings in the win for the Yankees. He gave up nine hits and two walks but just one earned run. Joba Chamberlain gave up the other two earned runs on four hits and a walk in 1 2/3 innings in his debut after missing all of the season while recuperating from Tommy John surgery and a broken ankle. Zach Britton was chased early in the loss for Baltimore. He last just 2 2/3 innings, giving up seven hits, seven earned runs and three walks.

New York (61-43) will begin its next series on Aug. 3 against the Seattle Mariners (49-57) at Yankee Stadium.
