Nick Swisher Injury: Yankees Outfielder Likely Out Until Friday

Nick Swisher likely won't play until Friday when the New York Yankees begin their three-game series with the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium, manager Joe Girardi said Sunday. Swisher left Friday's 3-2 loss to the Oakland Athletics in the seventh inning with a mild left hip flexor strain. As a result, he will be on the bench when the Yankees play the Seattle Mariners on Monday.

"(Swisher) said he wasn't as stiff today as he was yesterday," Girardi said. "He's still day to day. My guess is we won't have him in Seattle and hope to get him back after that. We'll have to see."

Swisher injured himself trying to beat out a ground ball. At the time, the assumption was that he should be able to return against the Mariners. Now, the Yankees are being more cautious not to rush Swisher back to the field too early.
