New York Yankees Roster Moves: Cory Wade Optioned To Triple-A To Make Room For Chad Qualls

The New York Yankees welcomed newly-acquired relief pitcher Chad Qualls on Monday and optioned right-hander Cory Wade to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (via River Ave Blues).

Qualls came over from the Philadelphia Phillies. He was 1-1 with a 4.60 ERA this season for the Phillies. He also had 12 holds and five blown saves for Philadelphia. For his career, Qualls is 39-35 with a 3.82 ERA, 51 saves and 445 strikeouts in 574 1/3 innings pitched.

Wade was 0-1 with a 5.79 ERA for the Yankees this season. Wade's last 20 appearances were dismal. He had an ERA of 9.68 in those games. The bulk of the bad outings came in June. Wade had a 13.97 ERA in 12 June appearances.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi was asked about what he said to Wade before demoting him. Girardi said, "Go down, get your stuff right." (via NJ.com)
