Freddy Garcia Status: Yankees Place Pitcher On Bereavement Leave

The New York Yankees have reportedly placed pitcher Freddy Garcia on bereavement leave as his grandfather has passed away in Venezuela (via Bryan Hoch's Twitter). Garcia, who last appeared in a game on June 5, has left the team to go to Venezeula.

While Garcia is on leave, the Yankees have called up pitcher Ryota Igarashi from Triple-A (via Bryan Hoch's Twitter). Igarashi, 33, was picked up by the Yankees off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays on May 29, 2012. In his MLB career, Igarashi is 5-2 with a 6.17 ERA and has 69 strikeouts and 70 innings. In the minors this season, Igarshi is 1-2 with a 1.73 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 29 innings. He's also picked up five saves in five opportunities.
