The New York Yankees will conclude their nine-game road trip Sunday, as Phil Hughes opposes Detroit Tigers' ace Justin Verlander in the finale of the three-game series at Comerica Park. The rubber match will start at 1:05 p.m. ET on YES, and a victory would be huge for either team.
For the Yankees (28-24) a win would help New York end its road trip with a 6-3 record, while the Tigers (25-28) are trying for their third victory in four games.
The task for the Yankees will be tough, however, especially with Hughes (4-5, 5.64 ERA) on the mound opposing the defending Cy Young Award winner. The righty has really struggled this season, and was torched in his last outing giving up seven runs on 11 hits against the Anaheim Angels.
