The New York Yankees were on the wrong end of a slugfest Friday night, losing to the Chicago White Sox by a score of 14-7. New York starter Adam Warren lasted just 2.1 innings, and after working their way through three more pitchers the Yankees finally turned to outfielder Dewayne Wise to pitch in the ninth. Wise faced two batters and retired both.
The Yankees started things off with a bang, scoring 4 in the bottom of the first inning on a two run homer run by Curtis Granderson and a two run double by Andruw Jones. The White Sox answered back in the top of the second with four runs of their own, and from there New York was unable to keep up as Chicago piled on the runs. Granderson, Jones and Jayson Nix each had two RBI for New York, with Robinson Cano adding the seventh run.
One bright spot for New York in the game was Derek Jeter passing Cal Ripken on the all time hits list. The long time Yankee shortstop collected the 3,185th hit of his career, good for 13th on the all time list. The Yankees have now lost Games 1 and 2 of the four game series. Game 3 takes place Saturday at 1:05 p.m. EDT.
