The New York Yankees are coming off a three-game sweep of the Oakland Athletics. Now, they head into another series against a team from California that is under .500.
New York will be taking on the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night to start a three-game series. While the Angels have had a disappointing start to the year, they've been hot of late.
Los Angeles has won six straight and their megastar, Albert Pujols, has finally come alive recently. Unlike the A's, the Angels are a serious threat in the American League and starting to look like one.
Similarly, the Yankees are finding their footing after a roller coaster start to their campaign. Now, coming off five consecutive victories, they'll try to beat Jered Weaver on Monday.
Weaver has been terrific this year, compiling a 6-1 record with a 2.61 ERA. He's clearly one of the favorites to win the AL Cy Young award at this point and will obviously pose quite a challenge to the Bronx Bombers.
Phil Hughes will oppose Weaver. Hughes needs to have his best stuff going all night. He's had a rough year overall at 4-5 and a 4.94 ERA. However, lately Hughes has been getting the job done, only allowing five runs in his last 19 innings (three starts).
