New York Yankees' 2012 Playoff Odds: Is It Getting Late Early?

Pardon me for conjuring up some Yogi Berra, but is it getting late early for the New York Yankees? The Yankees are just 21-21, tied for last place in the American League East. If the season ended today the Yankees would be going home, even with the expanded playoffs.

A quick check of a couple of web sites that use past performance to try to figure out future results indicates that the Bronx Bombers (Bumblers?) are in some trouble.

Cool Standings gives the Yankees, 5.5 games behind the Baltimore Orioles, just an 8.8 percent chance of winning the AL East and a 24.9 percent overall chance of making the playoffs.

Team Standings is only slightly more generous. Team Standings projects the Yankees with a 10.4 percent shot at a division title and a 33.6 percent shot at making the playoffs.

Yes, I think you can say that projections show it is definitely getting late early in the Bronx.
