The New York Yankees enter Sunday's rubber game against the Detroit Tigers looking to rebound from Saturday's 7-5 loss. The Yankees did attempt a ninth-inning comeback, but starter Freddy Garcia's struggles in the first two innings (six runs allowed) were ultimately too much to overcome that late into the game.
New York turns to CC Sabathia (2-0, 5.27 ERA), who enters this contest on a two-game winning streak. In those starts, Sabathia struck out 15 batters and allowed seven runs in 15⅓ innings. For his career, he is 15-12 with a 4.54 ERA in 32 starts against the Tigers.
Detroit will have Max Scherzer (1-2, 8.24 ERA) on the mound. He ran into trouble against the Seattle Mariners in his last start, allowing five runs on 10 hits in five innings. That performance was the worst of his starts since he allowed seven runs in 2⅔ innings. In a small sample size, Scherzer is 3-0 with a 2.84 ERA in three career starts against the Yankees.
