Yankees Spring Training 2012: New York Cuts Six, Phillies Interested In Ramiro Pena?

The New York Yankees cut six players from their Spring Training camp roster on Sunday (via LoHud.com).

Here's the list of the six players:

SS Ramiro Pena
OF Colin Curtis
RHP Manny Delcarmen
OF Cole Garner
C Jose Gil
RHP Kevin Whelan

The Yankees reassigned all of the above players except for Ramiro Pena. Pena was optioned to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Pena has reportedly drawn interest from the Philadelphia Phillies which have had a very bad string of luck when it comes to keep their infielders healthy. The injury to Chase Utley is what reportedly got Philadelphia interested in Pena (via New York Post).

Pena made 23 at-bats in Spring Training games in 2012 and hit .261 with one home run, one RBI and five strikeouts. However, the main attraction for the Phillies is likely that Pena is able to play second base, third base and shortstop.
