The New York Yankees clinched the American League East on Thursday, as well as home field advantage throughout the AL playoffs, but that isn't enough for the Bronx Bombers to be favored to win a 28th championship, according to Odds Shark.
Bovada has the Texas Rangers as the overall favorites to win the World Series with 9/2 odds. The Rangers let the AL West title slip through their fingers when they were swept by the Oakland Athletics in the final series of the season. Texas will have to beat the Baltimore Orioles in a one-game playoff on Friday to advance to the Division Series.
The Yankees were pegged at 5/1 to win it all, second-most likely among the 10 playoff teams. New York nearly suffered the same fate as Texas, as the Orioles surged to the top of the AL East standings on multiple occasions over the final weeks of the regular season. In the end, the Yankees were able to do just enough to win the division and secure home field.
The full list of odds for each team is as follows:
Texas Rangers 9/2
New York Yankees 5/1
Cincinnati Reds 11/2
Detroit Tigers 13/2
Atlanta Braves 10/1
Oakland Athletics 10/1
Baltimore Orioles 14/1
St. Louis Cardinals 14/1
