Through five innings, the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers are tied in Game 2 of the ALCS. All three hits in this game have come from Yankees; Mark Teixeira, Raul Ibanez and Nick Swisher. Yankees pitcher Hiroki Kuroda is having a good day on the mound, striking out eight Tigers and walking none in five innings.
Anibal Sanchez gave up the three Yankee hits, but also struck out five and walked just one in his five innings of action.
Although the game is scoreless, three runners were left on base with those hits, so opportunities have been there. Russell Martin came up short with Teixeira and Ibanez on, and Jayson Nix left Swisher stranded.
Some would call this a must-win game for the Yankees, because going to Detroit down 2-0 is less than ideal, even if C.C. Sabathia is expected to start that game. The Tigers took Game 1 at Yankee Stadium in a 12-inning thriller.
