Tigers vs. Yankees, 2012 ALCS Game 1 score update: Raul Ibanez forces extras

The Yankees are headed into extras thanks to more post-season heroics from Raul Ibanez.

Detroit added to their lead in the top of the eighth inning when Delmon Young blasted a solo homer off Derek Lowe. Jhonny Peralta followed with a double, chasing Lowe from the game. Avisail Garcia hit a two-out single against Boone Logan to extend the Tigers lead to 4-0.

Detroit closer Jose Valverde came in to start the ninth, but quickly ran into trouble. Russell Martin led off the inning with a single, but that was followed by a Derek Jeter strikeout. Ichiro Suzuki then blasted a two-run homer to right, slicing the Tigers lead in half. Valverde momentarily recovered, fanning Robinson Cano before issuing a walk to Mark Teixeira.

That all set it up for Ibanez, who crushed a two-run homer, tying the game and forcing Jim Leyland to remove Valverde from the game. Octavio Dotel struck out Eric Chavez to end the inning, but not before the damage was done.
