Orioles vs. Yankees, ALDS Game 4 recap: Baltimore wins, 2-1, in 13 innings

There will be a decisive Game 5 in the ALDS between the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles, as Baltimore clinched an extra-innings 2-1 win early Friday morning. After an endless stretch of scoreless baseball, the O's finally broke through against David Phelps in the top of the 13th to seal the one-run victory.

Phelps came on for Joba Chamberlain, who was knocked out of the game in the 12th after a broken bat struck his right throwing elbow. Phelps stranded Matt Wieters at first and got out of the 12th with the 1-1 tie still intact, but he was quickly hammered in the 13th. Dynamic rookie third baseman Manny Machado led off the inning with a double to the gap in right. He then moved to third on a Nate McLouth groundout to Robinson Cano.

With Machado on third, the Orioles just needed a ball to the outfield to score the speedy third baseman. J.J. Hardy did better than that, crushing a Phelps offering over Ichiro Suzuki's head in left to easily score Machado and break the 1-1 tie.

Jim Johnson came on in the bottom of the 13th and worked a 1-2-3 inning to preserve the 2-1 win. Johnson has been shaky in the series, but he got through the middle of the order without incident.

Game 5 is now set for Friday at 5:07 p.m. ET. CC Sabathia will face Jason Hammel in the decisive game.
