The New York Yankees pulled off an improbable comeback against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night in Game 3 of the American League Division Series, winning, 3-2, in 12 innings.
In the bottom of the ninth with one out, Raul Ibanez pinch-hit for Alex Rodriguez and smacked a game-tying home run off of Jim Johnson to send the game into extras. After a few scoreless innings, Ibanez stepped up once more and delivered the winning homer, this time off Brian Matusz.
Hiroki Kuroda kept the Yankees in the game for most of the night, throwing 8⅓ innings while allowing just two runs on five hits and a walk. The relief was impeccable for New York, with Boone Logan, Rafael Soriano and David Robertson combined for 3⅔ innings of one-hit ball.
The Baltimore runs both came courtesy of solo homers, off the bats of Ryan Flaherty in the third and Manny Machado in the fifth.
