It's Monday morning, so that means it's time to vote for the SB Nation New York Player of the Week. We took last week off, but CC Sabathia took the honors in our last polling a few weeks ago, due to his almost perfect game against the Mariners. This week, the New York Yankees went 3-2, while the New York Mets began their post-Beltran, post-K-Rod, post-Santana, post-Davis, post-Murphy, post-Reyes stretch of the season and didn't fare so well, with a 2-5 mark. At any rate, here are the new nominees. Vote now!
↵Curtis Granderson: His one blemish for the week, when he ended Tuesday's loss by falling for the old fake-to-third, throw-to-first trick that Turk Wendell perfected, can be overlooked when you have a week at the plate like Granderson did. He batted .300, going 6-for-20, and, amazingly, five of those hits were home runs. He drove in eight runs, scored seven and also walked twice. He's putting himself right in the thick of the MVP conversation.
↵Robinson Cano: The Yankees' smooth second baseman batted .500 this week, with 10 hits, a pair of long balls, six RBIs, six runs scored, two doubles, a triple and a walk. And he makes it all look so easy with that sweet swing of his.
↵Lucas Duda: The young, shy behemoth is making his case to be the full-time right fielder for the Mets next season. He produced the highlight of the week for the Amazin's, with his two-run walkoff single in Monday's come-from-behind victory. For the week, he batted .360, knocking out nine hits, drove in six runs, blasted a homer, hit a double, scored three runs and walked three times.
↵Jorge Posada: The longtime Yankee made his presence felt on Saturday in his first game in the lineup since being benched. Posada went 3-for-5, ripped a grand slam and drove in a total of six runs for the day. It was one of those magical afternoons that made us think it was the year 2000 once again.
