Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has been out for a couple weeks with a strained calf, but according to USA Today Jeter is set to return to the lineup on Monday when the Yankees face the Cleveland Indians. Returning to the lineup at this time gives Jeter a good shot to top the 3,000 hit mark while at Yankee Stadium. The Bombers will play seven games at home starting Monday before the All-Star break, and Jeter is just six hits shy of 3,000.
"I feel good now," Jeter told the Associated Press after today's workout at the Yankees' complex in Tampa, Fla. "I'm ready to get out of here."
Jeter will spend some time rehabbing with Double-A Trenton over the weekend before heading back to Gotham for Monday's game. He is hitting just .260 this season with two home runs and 20 rbi.
