Morning Coffee! April Fool's Day Edition

Good morning, New York/New Jersey-area sports fans! It is baseball season, even if it is snowing outside my window here in upstate New York on this April Fool's Day. By the way, watch out for the jokesters in your family today. I will be treading carefully (or, more carefully than usual) around the Mrs. today, since there is a long history of practice jokes in this house.

Anyway, let's get to our first look at today's regional sports scene.

↵

MLB: The New York Yankees opened their 2011 season in style -- grand style, actually. Curtis Granderson hit the go-ahead home run and made two spectacular defensive plays as the Yankees defeated Detroit, 6-3. The New York Mets open their season today against Florida with Mike Pelfrey on the mound.

↵

NHL: The New York Islanders - New York Rangers game turned into a rout Thursday night. Look at the standings and you'd think the Rangers should have been on the winning end, but they weren't. The Islanders rang up four second-period goals and won easily, 6-2.

Be sure to stick around SB Nation New York today. We will have NCAA Tournament features, mock draft updates for the New York Giants and New York Jets and much more.
