Ivan Nova of the New York Yankees and Doug Fister of the Detroit Tigers will -- weather permitting -- pick up Saturday night where CC Sabathia and Justin Verlander left off Friday night. In the second inning of Game 1 of the American League Division Series at Yankee Stadium (8:37 p.m. ET/TBS).
Game 1 was suspended due to heavy rain at Yankee Stadium. The score was tied 1-1 with the Yankees coming to bat in the bottom of the second inning, and that is where it will resume. If the rains don't come again, that is. Rain is in the forecast all day in the New York City area, raising the possibility that the teams will have to play a split doubleheader Sunday.
Nova, 24, went 16-4 for the Yankees in 2011 with a 3.70 ERA. He went from an after-thought in the Yankees' rotation to their No. 2 starter. Fister, acquired by the Tigers from Seattle in midseason, was 8-1 for the Tigers with a 1.79 ERA. He had gone 3-11, 3.33 in Seattle.
The Tigers scored in the first inning on a home run by Delmon Young. The Yankees got their run when Derek Jeter struck out, but reached on a wild pitch. He came around to score on a walk and a pair of groundouts.
