Ryan Kalish posted two hits including an RBI double for the Red Sox, who have taken the first two in the series after dropping four of six coming into the weekend. J.D. Drew and Victor Martinez added solo homers and Marco Scutaro also knocked in a run.
Lester (19-8) allowed just two hits while fanning eight and walking three to post his sixth straight win.
Curtis Granderson hit a two-run homer and Alex Rodriguez produced a solo shot for the Yankees, who dropped their fourth straight — all at home.
New York also fell one full game behind the Rays for first place in the AL East. Tampa takes on Seattle later Saturday.
Ivan Nova (1-1) lasted 4 2/3 innings and was charged in the loss for four runs and as many hits with three walks.
