Morning Coffee! Yankees Open In Texas, Thankfully

Good morning, New York sports fans! It's a wet, miserable day here in the Northeast. That, however, means all the more reason to sit around and talk sports. So, here we go.

  • The New York Yankees and Texas Rangers open the American League Championship Series tonight with CC Sabathia pitching for the Yankees against C.J. Wilson. Good thing that game is in Texas, considering the veritable monsoon I am looking at outside my window. With the forecast today in New York, no way they would be playing baseball tonight at Yankee Stadium.

  • The New Jersey Devils added defenseman Mark Fraser to their long list of injured players Thursday. He is out 4-6 weeks with a broken right hand sustained in a fight. I love hockey editor Joe Fortunato's reaction Thursday night when he found out about this latest injury. "Jesus, are they made of glass?" Maybe they are.

  • Former Mets manager Bobby Valentine turned down the Florida Marlins managerial job Thursday. That, of course, left some to wonder if Bobby V. is angling for a return to New York. Is that good news or bad news, Mets fans?

  • Have to mention this one. FOX analyst and former Dallas coach Jimmy Johnson Thursday called Brett Favre "a drama queen." I love it, it's right on target. By the way, while he was at it Johnson basically said Favre isn't that good anymore. FINALLY! A TV person who actually said the words out loud.

  • No faking for Gilbert Arenas this time. The Washington Wizards guard now has a real injury, having suffered a groin strain in an exhibition game Thursday night. All I can do is shake my head at the mess Arenas has made of his career.
