The New York Red Bulls won their third straight game Sunday with a 3-2 win over D.C. United at Red Bull Arena. Brandon Barklage scored twice in the first half to give the Red Bulls a 2-1 lead heading into the locker room that they held throughout the second half.
D.C. United took a 1-0 lead in the first minute of the game on a Chris Pontius header to the top right corner of the net. Barklage responded in the 20th minute by putting a Joel Lindpere cross into the center of the goal. He scored again in the 45th minute with a right-footed shot from the right side of the box to the bottom left corner of the net.
Jan Gunnar Solli put the Red Bulls up 3-1 with another shot to the bottom left of the net. Pontius scored his second goal of the night in the 66th minute.
The Red Bulls put nine shots on goals to four for United. Ryan Meara made one save on the night while United goalkeeper Bill Hamid made six.
