U.S. Open Cup 2012: Red Bulls Defeat Battery, 3-0, Tuesday Night

The New York Red Bulls advanced to the fourth round of the 2012 U.S. Open Cup with a 3-0 victory over the Charleston Battery at Blackbaud Stadium on Tuesday night. The Red Bulls will face the Harrisburg City Islanders in the next round.

Kenny Cooper put the Red Bulls on the board, 1-0, with a left-footed shot off an assist from Mehdi Ballouchy in the 14th minute. Heath Pearce with a volley past the Battery goaltender off a pass from Dax McCarty in the 41st minute. Connor Lade made the score 3-0 with a pretty shot from 27 yards out that curled into the upper righthand corner of the goal.

The Red Bulls were without Thierry Henry for the match, who stayed out to rest his injured hamstring. The Red Bulls were also missing several players who were on duty with their national teams.
