The New York Red Bulls' 2012 offseason has been slow in terms of picking up new players. It might heat up in the near future as Markus Holgersson has reportedly declined an offer from his Swedish club and has drawn interest from the Red Bulls, who were not silent about their desire to acquire a central defender from Europe.

Red Bulls general manager Erik Solér told the New York Post that no deal has been reached. Red Bulls coach Hans Backe was not as tight lipped, telling a Swedish outlet (via Fotboll Expressen.se) that all that is left is to do is to get Holgersson's visa.

Holgersson is 6-foot-3 and 172 pounds. He started in 26 of 30 games last season for his Swedish club Helsingborgs IF. The veteran has played 169 league matches in his career and scored 11 goals. Holgersson recently got his first call-up to the Swedish National Team to play against Qatar in a friendly. The match will be on Jan. 23.
