Red Bulls 1, Dynamo 1: De Rosario Makes Immediate Impact

Newly acquired midfielder Dwayne De Rosario marked his debut by assisting on Dane Richards’ opening goal as the New York Red Bulls played the Houston Dynamo to a 1-1 draw Saturday night in MLS action. The Red Bulls are 1-0-2 (five points) and Houston is 0-1-2 (two points).

After a scoreless first half, the teams traded goals in the first five minutes of the second half. De Rosario came on to start the second half and made an immediate impact when his first touch on the ball was a pass into space that Red Bulls attacker Dane Richards ran onto. Richards sprinted into the Houston area, cut back past a defender, and scored for the 1-0 lead in the 47th minute.

Houston got the equalizer just three minutes later when Cam Weaver chipped a shot over onrushing New York goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul to tie the game at one.

The Red Bulls dominated much of the play, outshooting Houston, 24-9. New York had several opportunities for the game-winner late, but could not cash in.

New York next travels to Philadelphia to face Eastern Conference rival Philadelphia Union, at PPL Park on April 9 at 7 p.m. (TV: ESPN2, ESPN Deportes; Radio: WADO 1280 AM). The Red Bulls return to Red Bull Arena on Saturday, April 16 taking on the San Jose Earthquakes at 7:30 p.m. (TV: MSG; Radio: WQBU 92.7 FM).
