The New York Red Bulls suffered their first defeat of the 2011 season Saturday, dropping a frustrating 1-0 decision to the Philadelphia Union at PPL Park in Philly.
Philadelphia substitute Roger Torres scored with his first touch of the game in the 68th minute. Torres entered the match in the 67th minute for Carlos Ruiz, and after New York (1-1-2) defender Tim Ream’s attempted clearance went straight to Danny Mwanga, he laid the ball off for Torres inside the penalty area for the score.
Juan Agudelo of the Red Bulls hit the post twice during the first half. First, Dwayne De Rosario, making his first start as a Red Bull, found space on the right side of the field and slid the ball to Agudelo, who rolled a 12-yard shot that knocked off the left post. Later in the half Agudelo again hit the post off a pass from Joel Lindpere.
The Red Bulls return to Red Bull Arena on Saturday, April 16, taking on the San Jose Earthquakes at 7:30 p.m.
