Marian Gaborik Injury: Rangers Forward Needs Shoulder Surgery

According to Mike Halford of Pro Hockey Talk at NBC Sports (via Larry Brooks of the New York Post), New York Rangers forward Marian Gaborik will need shoulder surgery this off-season, to repair an injured rotator cuff.

While there's no set report on how long the procedure will keep Gaborik out for, a report from the University of Maryland's Orthopaedics Department (Shoulder and Elbow Program) says it takes approximately six months for rotator cuff surgery patients to regain 80 percent of strength with studies showing "gains in strength continue over a two-year time period."

The 30-year-old forward scored 41 goals and recorded 35 assists during the 2011-12 regular season, but struggled to replicate that success in the Playoffs, when he scored only five goals, on 60 shots on goal.
