2012 Winter Classic: Beaten New York Rangers Fan Discusses Fight, Injuries

Neal Auricchio, the New York Rangers fan who was beaten during a fight after the 2012 Winter Classic, told NBC New York that he is still having trouble with his vision and is scheduled for surgery to repair a fractured bone under his left eye.

Auricchio said he was standing in line with a friend waiting to buy a cheese steak when a Philadelphia Flyers fan began to attack the pair.

"They grabbed my friend's hat, threw a cigarette in it, threw one at me," he told NBC New York.

"I said, 'Relax, it's just a game,'" he said. "Then I was overwhelmed by a mob, punched and knocked to the ground."

Denis Veteri of Glassboro was arrested as a result of the incident and charged with aggravated assault. Auricchio's attorney Ray Gill said that once the criminal investigation is finished, Auricchio, a Woodbridge, NJ policeman who was off-duty at the time of the incident, is expected to file a civil suit.
