What do you get when you combine sports, politics, Twitter and New York Rangers' controversial defenseman Sean Avery? Well, you get something pretty close to spontaneous combustion.
↵If you don't know, the outspoken and often un-appreciated Avery recently came out in support of same-sex marriage, which could be legalized in New York this year.
↵Avery has been criticized in many corners for his stance, and supported in others. A Toronto broadcaster, Damian Goddard, has been fired for tweets critical of Avery.
↵Goddard had shown support via Twitter for agent Todd Reynolds, who tweeted this about Avery and same-sex marriage:
↵↵↵"very sad to read Sean Avery's misguided support of same-gender "marriage". Legal or not, it will always be wrong."
↵To clarify. This is not hatred or bigotry towards gays. It is not intolerance in any way shape or form. I believe we are all equal.
↵But I believe in the sanctity of marriage between one man and one woman. This is my personal viewpoint. I Do not hate anyone.
↵
Is Twitter really the best forum for this sort of stuff? Probably not. Besides which, why is it Reynolds' business to call Avery 'misguided?' Avery has a right to his belief. Anyone who disagrees has a right to their belief. We live in a free country, and deciding these things is what we use the voting booth for.
