Ryan Callahan Expected To Miss Six Weeks

It’s a good thing that the Rangers won the game last night, or else this loss of Ryan Callahan would sting even more.

Callahan broke his hand Wednesday night against the Penguins, and according to Steve Zipay the break will cause him to miss six weeks.

Break is on top of Callahan’s left hand. Not sure if it’s displaced on not. Re-exam tomorrow, but initial diagnosis is: Out six weeks.

This is obviously bad news for the Rangers. Callahan is usually an important cog for this team, but he’s been even more vital this year. Callahan currently has 10 goals and 13 assists on the year, a pace that would see him notch 60 points if he played the entire season.

He is, of course, not going to do that with the injury.

For those of you who can remember, this is similar to Brandon Dubinsky’s injury last year. I’m expecting Callahan to miss roughly 18 games this year.

It will be interesting to see how the Rangers recover from this. We’ll also keep you posted on who they bring up from the AHL, if anyone, to replace him.
