Brewers 9, Mets 6: Brew Crew Lays Wood On Jenrry Mejia And Mets Bullpen

The New York Mets failed to string a couple of wins together Saturday night, losing to the Milwaukee Brewers, 9-6, thanks to ineffective pitching from both Jenrry Mejia, who made his first start for the Mets in two years after sitting out all of 2011 recovering from Tommy John surgery, and the relievers that followed.

Both teams got off to a fast start, with Ryan Braun answering Lucas Duda's RBI-single in the top of the first inning by doubling home Rickie Weeks in the bottom-half of the frame.

The Mets pulled ahead in the fourth with a three-run inning, buoyed by two-out RBIs from Ruben Tejada and Daniel Murphy. But the Brewers came right back in the bottom of the inning with a five-run frame. The barrage began with a triple from Logan Schafer, scoring Nyjer Morgan and Jean Segura. After Mejia walked Norichika Aoki without recording an out in the inning, Mets manager Terry Collins pulled his starter in favor of Jeremy Hefner, who promptly threw a wild pitch, allowing Schafer to score, and gave up a two-run homer to Weeks on a 1-2 count before recording three straight outs to stop the bleeding.

But the Brew Crew weren't done. In the bottom of the fifth, Travis Ishikawa tripled home Morgan and scored on an Aoki single to make it 8-4. Weeks added another RBI with a double in the bottom in the seventh. The Mets almost made things interesting in the ninth inning when, following a David Wright walk, Ike Davis hit a one-out, two-run homer, but Duda and Jordany Valdespin struck out to end the rally three runs short.

The Mets will try and take the series Sunday night in Milwaukee when they send veteran Chris Young to the mound to face Brewers starter Wily Peralta.
