The New York Mets gave up four runs in the fourth inning during their 4-2 loss to the Miami Marlins at Citi Field on Tuesday night. Jon Niese (8-6) gave up five his eight hits on the night in the inning, earning all four runs against. He struck out four in the loss.
John Buck batted in two runs on a double to right field to cap the big inning for the Marlins. The Mets came back in the fifth inning, starting with leadoff home run by Daniel Murphy. Andres Torres scored Jason Bay on a single with two outs in the inning to make the score 4-2. Niese struck out looking to end the inning with the bases loaded, however.
Carlos Zambrano (7-9) earned the win after giving up no hits with a walk and a strikeout in 1 1/3 innings for the Marlins. Starter Wade LeBlanc gave up six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in four innings.
Steve Cishek earned his seventh save of the season with two strikeouts in the ninth inning. Jordany Valdespin fouled out to the catcher to end the game.
Game 2 of the three-game series is set for 7:10 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Chris Young (3-5, 4.22 ERA) will take on Miami's Nate Eovaldi (2-7, 4.66) at the mound.
