The New York Mets were within one run at one point, but between a six run second inning from starter Jon Niese and a three run seventh from reliever Elvin Ramirez New York was never able to catch up with The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Mets lost, 11-5.
The Mets got on the board first, going up 2-0 with an Ike Davis solo home run and an RBI single by Andres Torres. Arizona came back in the second, taking Niese for six runs on five hits and an error, including Niese walking in a run. New York made things close again with a three run home run from David Wright, but the Diamondbacks were able to add one run each in both the fourth and fifth innings, then put the game away with the three-run seventh.
The Mets fall to 48-52 with the loss and are now 1-1 in their four game series with the Diamondbacks. Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at 8:10 p.m. ET.
