Jason Bay Injury Update: Outfielder Will Rejoin New York Mets Wednesday

New York Mets outfielder Jason Bay will rejoin the team Wednesday for the first time since going on the disabled list April 24 with a fractured rib.

Manager Terry Collins said Bay is likely to spend significant time as the team's designated hitter during two upcoming interleague series, but the 33-year old completed a rehab assignment at single-A St. Lucie Tuesday with nine innings in the outfield.

Another injured Mets starter, Ruben Tejada, aggravated his tight right quadriceps during a rehab assignment. He was scheduled to rejoin the Mets on Friday, but is likely headed to the team's spring training complex in Florida instead for another stint of rehab.

"I just know his leg tightened up on him. He was afraid to run. So he took himself out of the game," Collins said. "So he's probably headed back to Florida."
