After losing the most maddening game of the season, the New York Mets are looking to rebound on Wednesday night in the second game of their series against the Washington Nationals.
New York blew multiple late-inning leads on Tuesday before finally capitulating to a Bryce Harper walk-off single in the 12th. Now, the Mets have to regroup and will try to do so with Jeremy Hefner on the mound.
Hefner has struggled in his limited time this year, posting a 5.60 ERA and a 1-2 record. However he did pitch better in his last outing, surrendering three runs in six innings to the Philadelphia Phillies.
Opposing Hefner is the well-traveled Edwin Jackson. The 28-year-old hasn't had much luck so far, with a 3.17 ERA but somehow a 1-3 mark.
Jackson has thrown the ball well, but yet the Nationals have lost each of the last five games he's started. His only win came on April 14th in a complete inning effort against the Cincinnati Reds.
If New York can find a way to win, it'll have R.A. Dickey pitching with a chance to take the series from the division leaders on Thursday.
