2012 MLB Futures Game: Wilmer Flores, Zack Wheeler To Represent New York Mets

Wilmer Flores and Zack Wheeler will represent the New York Mets farm system in the 2012 MLB Futures Game, an exhibition between some of the top minor league talent which will take place on July 8 as part of the MLB's All-Star weekend festivities.

Flores, a 20-year old infielder who has played mostly third base this season, has spent his entire season to date with Single-A St. Lucie. There, he's hitting .289 with 10 home runs and 42 RBI over 64 games played. Flores also spent last season in St. Lucie, but as a sign of his progression has already surpassed last year's home run total (nine in 133 games played).

Wheeler, a 22-year old, right-handed starter, is posting his best numbers since being drafted with the sixth overall pick of the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft by the San Francisco Giants. He is 6-3 in his first 12 starts this season at Double-A Binghamton with a 1.88 ERA and 73 strikeouts over 71.2 innings.
