Johan Santana takes the hill for the New York Mets as they open a four-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals at Citi Field on Friday night. (Game Time: 7:10 p.m. ET, TV Schedule: SNY)
Santana (2-2, 2.75 ERA) was stellar in his previous start last Saturday, allowing just four hits during his first shutout since undergoing elbow surgery in 2010.
The Mets' left-handed ace will be opposed by Adam Wainwright, who started slowly as he returned this season from elbow surgery of his own but has won his last two starts while surrendering just one run over his last 15 innings.
When the series with St. Louis concludes, the Mets will hit the road for a nine-game road trip that includes three-game sets with the Washington Nationals, New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays
