Mets Vs. Phillies Final Score: New York Wins, 6-3, After 64-Minute Rain Delay

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-3, Tuesday at Citi Field in a game delayed 64 minutes in the middle of the eighth inning due to rain. Jeremy Hefner (1-2) got the win for the Mets, giving up three earned runs off six hits over six innings. He also hit a solo shot home run in the fourth inning to give the Mets a 4-2 lead. The homer was the rookie's first of his career.

Joe Blanton (4-5) of the Phillies gave up nine hits, two walks and six earned runs. New York scored two runs off singles from David Wright and Ike Davis in the first inning to take a 2-1 lead. Mike Baxter doubled in the second to put the Mets up 3-2 before Hefner came through with the deep shot to left field in the fourth. Scott Hairston pinch-hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning to give the Mets a 6-3 lead. The home run was his seventh of the year, and seventh career as a pinch hitter.

Jimmy Rollins put the Phillies up 1-0 in the top of the first inning when he scored on a wild pitch to Hunter Pence. The run marked the only time Philadelphia held a lead during the game. Brian Schneider tied the game, 2-2, with a solo home run to right field in the second. Pence doubled in the sixth to score Juan Pierre for the Phillies' final run.

Omar Quintanilla, making his season debut with the Mets, tied a career-high with three hits in four at-bats. Frank Francisco earned his 14th save of the season for New York.

With the win, the Mets improved to 28-22 on the year. They are now 1.5 games behind the Washington Nationals in the NL East. Game 3 of the series will begin at 7:10 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Dillon Gee (4-3, 4.92 ERA) will take on the Phillies' Cliff Lee (0-2, 2.82).
