Mets Vs. Astros: Chris Schwinden Hammered Again In New York's 8-1 Loss

The New York Mets fell, 8-1, to Houston on Wednesday in their final game of a three game series with the Astros at Minute Maid Park. The Mets were swept in the series.

Chris Schwinden got the start for the Mets and for the second game in a row, he was shelled by the opposition's hitters. In both outings this season, Schwinden has only made it four innings while giving up two homers and five earned runs. Schwinden only had one strikeout on Wednesday and picked up his first decision of the season in the loss. His counterpart, Wandy Rodriguez, struck out five batters and gave up just one run in seven innings of work for Houston.

The two Astros home runs gave them a 5-0 lead through three innings. New York got their only run when Andres Torres drove in David Wright with a single in the fourth inning. The rest of the damage by Houston was done in the fifth inning when the Astros battered Manny Acosta for three runs on five hits. Ruben Tejada was 3-4 at the plate and had three of the seven Mets hits on the day.

The Mets were outscored 18-7 in the series. Their next game will be on May 4 against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citi Field.
