New York Mets relief pitcher D.J. Carrasco gave up an eighth inning two-run homer to Cincinnati Reds third baseman Todd Frazier on Wednesday night that proved to be too much for the team to handle. Carrasco was designated for assignment by the Mets following the game.
Carrasco took it in stride. As reported by CBS New York, the 35-year-old right-hander acknowledged the move in light of his recent struggles.
"It's pretty self-explanatory," Carrasco said. "I would have done the same thing if I were the general manager."
Carrasco hit Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun in a Tuesday loss to Milwaukee. For the season, he has allowed three earned runs and two home runs in three and a third innings of work. He struggled with the Mets last season as well, posting a 6.02 ERA over 42 appearances.
The Mets play the Reds again on Thursday afternoon.
