Jason Bay Injury Update: New York Mets Place Bay On DL, Recall Zach Lutz

The New York Mets announced Tuesday that they have placed outfielder Jason Bay on the 15-day disabled list with a broken rib and recalled infielder Zach Lutz from Triple-A.

Bay injured himself Monday when he went all-out in a diving attempt to catch Gregor Blanco's rope to left field during the fourth inning of the Mets' 6-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants. Bay remained in the game for several innings, drawing a walk in the sixth frame, but left in the eighth inning after experiencing discomfort.

Said Bay: "Originally it felt like I jarred my shoulder a little bit. A few innings went on, I started having a little discomfort where I landed on my ribs there. I don't know much more about it."
