New York Mets Great Gary Carter Has Passed Away

One of the best catchers to ever put on a New York Mets uniform, Gary Carter, has passed away after a long battle with brain cancer.

Carter's daughter has been updating her father's fight on a family journal and delivered the terrible news Thursday afternoon.

"I am deeply saddened to tell you all that my precious dad went to be with Jesus today at 4:10 pm. This is the most difficult thing I have ever had to write in my entire life but I wanted you all to know."

The 57-year-old helped propel the Mets to a championship level after being acquired before the 1985 season.

New York sports fans will always remember the image of Carter jumping onto reliever Jesse Orosco after the Mets eliminated the Boston Red Sox in Game 7 of the 1986 World Series. That championship is never won if Carter doesn't pick up the clutch two-out single in the bottom of the 10th inning in Game 6.
