New York Mets Set To Activate Jose Reyes From DL

The New York Mets will active SS Jose Reyes in between games of Monday's doubleheader with the Florida Marlins at Citi Field.

Reyes has been out of the lineup since August 7 when he once again injured his hamstring.  In the third game of his rehab assignment playing for the Double-A Binghamton Mets on Saturday, Reyes showed he was ready to return in eight innings of play.

In those three games, Reyes went 3-for-9 with a home run.  He returns to the lineup with his eyes squarely on a batting title.  Reyes' average is .336, just two points ahead of Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Manager Terry Collins mentioned he planned to rest Reyes the rest of the way this season and in 2012 if the Mets re-sign the shortstop.  Such an idea sounds good on paper, but will be difficult to justify if the team makes him their highest paid position player.
