The National League lineup for the 2011 All-Star Home Run Derby has been set. Prince Fielder of Milwaukee, captain of this year’s squad using a new four-man team format, has announced his selections.
Milwaukee teammate Rickie Weeks (15 home runs), Matt Kemp of the Los Angeles Dodgers (a National League-leading 22 home runs) and Matt Holliday of St. Louis (10 home runs) will join Fielder. The Milwaukee slugger has 21 home runs.
The American League team is captain by Boston’s David Ortiz. He has Red Sox teammate Adrian Gonzalez, New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano and major-league home run leader Jose Bautista on his squad.
This year’s Derby will use a new format where the two leagues will square off against each other.
St. Louis outfielder Lance Berkman is tied with Kemp for the NL lead in home runs with 22, but his teammate Holliday was Fielder’s choice for the spot.
On the AL side, former Derby champ Josh Hamilton was bypassed by Ortiz.
