Mets At Cubs: Dickey Looks To Build Off Of Last Outing

On a day in which there is actually positive financial news to report, the New York Mets will look to win the series against the Chicago Cubs, after last night's rain-shortened 7-4 victory. R.A. Dickey will be on the mound and he'll be opposed by Carlos Zambrano.

Dickey's knuckleball was quite possibly the best it's been all year in his last game against the New York Yankees, a six-inning outing in which he allowed one earned run and struckout six. With a 2-5 record, 4.71 ERA and 1.55 WHIP, it's apparent that he hasn't had the easiest go of it this season, but the Mets need him to repeat that performance more often if they want to take strides to the .500 mark, as they're two games back right now.

Zambrano has a 4-2 record on the year, with a 4.88 ERA and 1.31 WHIP. Usually with him, you get either a really good outing or a really terrible one, and this year most of them have left something to be desired. What's certain though is that he's far from the pitcher he was five years ago -- his velocity has greatly diminished and he's now relying much more on a cutter because of this. He is 5-3 with a 3.52 ERA in his career against the Mets.

The importance of winning this series cannot be understated because the Mets are about to start a three-game set with the Philadelphia Phillies tomorrow.
